Dissatisfied with sex? You are not alone!
In a study reported by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists
(AASECT)i it was found that there is a virtual epidemic of women and men having problems with the sexual part of their relationships.
The study focused on people from 20 - 59 years old: 32 million out of 76 million females and 21 million out of 68 million males. Sadly, most of the dysfunction
could be successfully treated if sufferers would seek help.
Questions asked on a survey to 1749 women and 1419 men included: lack of interest in having sex,
inability to experience orgasm or have it happen too quickly, physical pain during relations, little or no pleasure during intercourse, anxiety before or during,
erectile dysfunction etc. The study's detailed findings include the following:
- Women's sexual problems tend to decline with age.
- Women between 50 and 59 are 1/3 less likely to have pain during sex than those ages 18 - 29
- They are half as likely to find sex unpleasureable and
40% as likely to be anxious about performance
- Age did not affect interest in sex, ability to reach orgasm, or trouble with lubrication.
- In contast, men's sexual problems tend to increase with age.
- Men ages 50 - 59 are three times as likely than those 18 -29 to lack interest in sex,
and 3 1/2 times as likely to suffer erectile dysfunction.
- Both married men and women tend to experience less sexual dysfunction that those unmarried.
- The more educated a person, the less likely sexual dysfunction. Women who completed high school only
were twice as likely to lack interest in sex, experience pain and feel anxious about performance in sex than
women who were college graduates.
