A Positive Interpersonal Field Makes All the Difference
The Stone Center of Wellesley College has been doing research
on couple relationships for more than 25 years and one of their significant findings is that a relationship "remembers."
Think of your relationship with your partner as a kind of emotional bank account. Every time you do something
loving, respectful, thoughtful, or appreciative---something that validates your partner---you add plusses
to your bank account. Whenever you do something that discounts your partner, you withdraw five validations
from your account. When you have a plus balance in your account, you have a positive field and your partner will be prejudiced toward you.
When you have a negative field, your partner will be prejudiced against you.
